Position Summary

Bailey Library at Slippery Rock University seeks a half-time temporary, nine-month faculty librarian to serve as the instructional consultant and liaison to the English Department by providing library instruction and research assistance. Additionally this position serves as the liaison to the Writing Center, and provides oversight of the University Archives & Special Collections and digital initiatives. This position also participates in the research services rotation.

Per the collective bargaining agreement between the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) and the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF), Article 23.2b: library faculty “will be scheduled no more than thirty-five (35) hours per week,” therefore this half-time position will be scheduled for 17.5 hours per week, ideally to be completed within a Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm work week. This position reports to the Associate Provost for Transformational Experiences.

Subject Specialist • Provides library research instruction for classes, groups, and individual students in the English Department • Maintains research guides and tutorials to integrate information competencies throughout the academic process • Responsible for collection development and library resource management for designated departments • Serves as the liaison to the Writing Center

Archives & Special Collections • Provides oversight of University Archives & Special Collections operations, working with 1.5 staff in a team environment • Oversees the acquisition, preservation, description, and access of archival records and special collections resources • Provides Archives & Special Collections instruction for classes, groups, and individual students • Maintains donor relations relevant to the development of the collection • Makes relevant preservation decisions

Digital Initiatives • Oversees the creation and maintenance of digital collections in a team environment • Oversees reformatting of archival materials and metadata creation for digital objects

Additional Responsibilities • Participates in the research services rotation • Maintains office hours and other required faculty duties as outlined in the CBA • Other appropriate responsibilities as assigned that fulfill the mission of the library

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution* or the equivalent • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with diverse students, faculty and staff in a team environment • Demonstrated analytical, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, and initiative • Flexibility in scheduling • Successful performance in an interview, including a presentation/teaching demonstration

*degrees in progress must be completed by August 15, 2018

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year professional experience • Work experience in an academic setting • A degree in English • Teaching / demonstrated experience with information literacy instruction • Experience or education in archives, special collections, and/or digital initiatives • Familiarity with current technologies for the organization of information • Experience in providing reference or research services • Familiarity with humanities databases and other reference resources
