The Maintenance Worker performs interior and exterior repairs of building structure, major plant equipment, and all interior building areas, equipment used by various facility departments on both a scheduled and as-needed basis. The Maintenance Worker also assumes porter duties as needed and assists with snow removal, lawn care and watering of shrubbery as required. The Maintenance Worker reports directly to the Manager, Environmental Services.
ESSENTIAL JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Demonstrates the Mercy Health’s Mission and values of compassion, excellence, human dignity, justice, sacredness of life and service.
Coordinates repair work with other departments
Assists in testing fire alarm and emergency generator systems and participates in fire drills and emergency evacuation exercises.
Performs monthly inspections of facility and grounds.
Assists periodically in contractor testing inspection and repair.
Reports supply and equipment needs and maintains record of supply/equipment purchases.
Maintains tools and equipment in good working order.
Ensures that tool storage areas, work and storage areas are neat and orderly.
May paint and perform minor carpentry and structural work such as dry wall repair or replacement and wallpapering.
Assumes porter duties as needed.
Removes trash and hazard waste from the building as required.
OTHER JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Cooperates with other workers as members of the work team in order to effect quality performance on behalf of The Village residents.
Demonstrates a genuine interest in the elderly and in geriatric care.
Exhibits understanding, patience, tact and courtesy when interacting with residents and their families/friends.
Qualifications - Minimum
High school diploma or G.E.D., preferable with a vocation trade concentration.
At least one-year previous facility maintenance experience.
Demonstrated ability to operate power hand tools and equipment and read common measuring instruments.
Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to perform duties inside the facility and outdoors when necessary.
Demonstrated good mental and physical health.
Demonstrated ability to withstand constant standing and walking, frequent lifting and moving of excess of forty pounds.
Hours per pay period: 80
Hours: 7:00am to 3:30pm
Weekends and holidays are rotated.
