UPMC Medical Lab Technician in New Castle, Pennsylvania


UPMC Jameson is excited to be hiring a full-time Medical Lab Technician!

In this role you would provide for the accurate performance of routine and STAT laboratory testing. These tests are used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients and in the evaluation of a patient's response to treatment. The Medical Laboratory Technician applies competent clinical knowledge to achieve accurate clinical testing which leads to quality patient care outcomes. The Medical Laboratory Technician works in conjunction with and under the supervision of the Medical Technologists.


  • Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and independent judgement recognizing priorities to accommodate department needs and acceptance of appropriate authority

  • Establishes and maintains good rapport and cooperative relationship with medical staff, co-workers, supervisors and others

  • Maintains confidentiality of hospital and department information with no infractions

  • Maintains laboratory equipment by daily performance of routine maintenance procedures; maintains supplies of reagents in stock and prepared; performs trouble shooting procedures and calls services

  • Maintains professional, pleasant, and effective communications both internally and externally

  • Obtains blood specimens from the Nursing Units, Emergency Services and Outpatient Laboratory

  • Performs and documents quality control according to established protocols

  • Performs routine and stat laboratory analyses utilizing standard equipment and adhering to department policy and procedure manuals

  • Prepares specimens for processing and testing upon arrival to the laboratory

  • Presents self in a positive manner reflected by personal attire and etiquette

  • Promotes the hospital's image and maintains a positive and helpful attitude toward employees, physicians,visitors, and the community to enhance the hospital's reputation as a health care center

  • Provides treatment and care appropriate to the ages of patients


  • Associate degree in a laboratory science or Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) from an accredited institution,

  • OR certification from an accredited Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) program,

  • OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP preferred,

  • OR a certified training military program AND ASCP prefereed,

  • OR equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA 88 for individuals performing high complexity testing.

  • Prefer minimum 1 years experience in a hospital laboratory.

  • Need to know Medical terminology and laboratory information system.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT(ASCP)) or Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification preferred.

  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
