The purpose of this position is to lead, direct and supervise the hourly employees in the melting and refining areas of the Faircrest Steel Plant. This person will coordinate the activities with Gambrinus Scrap Operations, Faircrest Bottom Ingot Making, Levy, and the Faircrest Caster. The incumbent will ensure safety, quality, minimize cost, and optimize use of personnel and equipment in this role.
This position will require working a rotational and flexible shift.
Safety - Enforce prescribed safety procedures, practices, apparel and devices to guard against hazards and accidents.
Productivity - Directly responsible for production of current year production goal.
Hot Metal Quality - Enforce procedures and practices to ensure the highest level of consistency and quality in the hot metal delivered to the refining and casting operations.
Control of Costs - Thorough investigation of any equipment damage and diverts/dilutes of heats. Ensure goods, supplies and services are utilized to limit and/or reduce waste.
Continuous Improvement - Participate in the implementation of methods and equipment for Continuous Improvement. Participate in meetings, the generation of ideas, methods and equipment for Continuous Improvement.
Training - Help determine department/Crew training needs. Schedule and/or deliver training. Assist in the development of training modules.
- High school diploma or equivalent required with 8+ years of manufacturing or supervisory experience.
Associate's degree in business / technical major with 6+ years' experience.
Bachelor’s Degree in technical or business with 4+ years’ experience.
Ability to use a computer to type reports, issue email and other documents.
Solid communication skills (verbal and written).
Understanding of lean 6 sigma principals a strong understanding of maintenance needs background / education in a technical or manufacturing environment familiarity with working in a union environment.
