Purpose and Scope:

This position exists to provide knowledge of customer, industry and international quality standards to management and associates, interpret these standards and translate them into terms that the business can understand and fulfill in the most cost effective, value added manner consistent with our customer and shareholder needs. This risk management analysis is based on expertise and in depth understanding of quality systems and our overall business. Leads or assists in internal process improvement. Conducts audit assessments, performs statistical analysis and recommended process controls to improve business performance. Facilitates or leads quality problem solving teams for improvement or corrective action activities. Evaluates and reports information to senior management that supports the initiation of improvement efforts.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Analyzes risk, interprets and applies quality system requirements to obtain and maintain customer and registrar approval of our quality system. This requires quality system expertise, business knowledge and the ability to interpret and communicate customer needs throughout relevant areas of the business and to obtain agreement in the business to meet these needs often against competing objectives.

  2. Assures satisfactory completion of corrective actions for customer problems. Lead, facilitate or participate in cross-functional teams to ensure effective, timely completion a written report and/or development of a presentation to the customer on site or at their plant to maintain preferred supplier status at a reasonable cost.

  3. Administer subsystems such as: Standards and Document Control, PPAP, GQTS, LPA, OGA, MSAs, Training, Quality Records, MOC, Internal Audits, etc.

  4. Analyzes and reports performance and manufacturing information such as yield, cost of quality, complaints, CAR/PAR's, etc. to aid in the determination of where to best apply resources for improvement of business results and to satisfy customers.

  5. Application of statistical techniques, problem solving and other tools of quality (such as control plans, flow charts, graphical analyses, etc).

  6. Conducts quality system auditing and verification of corrective actions, either internally or at supplier facilities. The continual use of auditing skills, up to date knowledge of primary quality system standards, lead assessor training, lead assessor planning and control of audit teams, timely reporting of findings, understanding of key control characteristics in the business as well as performing consulting activities by suggesting possible solutions to ensure compliance to stated requirements.

  7. Lead escort for customer audits and customer approval process to ensure eligibility for ongoing and new sales.

  8. Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Business or related field with at least 7 years of experience in quality system standards, problem solving, project management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Business or related field with at least 10 years of experience in quality system standards, problem solving, project management.

Technical/Functional Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of quality systems standards/requirements such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949, API Q1, ISO 17025, AS 9100, AIAG Core Tools
  • 8D Root Cause and 5 Why Analysis Methodologies
  • Basic manufacturing process knowledge
  • Auditing training and audit experience
  • Strong writing, presentation, and people skills
  • Team leadership and project management experience
  • Ability to lead and apply AQP principles (Advanced Quality Planning) and Customer Specific Requirements
  • Ability to effectively communicate and accomplish goals w/ internal TimkenSteel representatives
