PURPOSE OF POSITION :

The primary purpose of the Nurse Aide is to assist in providing compassionate basic patient care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse while demonstrating excellence in customer service.

WORKING CONDITION:

  1. Normally works eight hours per day, rotates shifts, works every other weekend and holidays as assigned.

  2. Lunch periods and breaks are coordinated with other staff to maintain adequate floor coverage.

  3. Subject to frequent interruptions during performance of duties.

  4. Expected to fulfill position description requirements.

  5. Evidence of good health by infrequent absenteeism.

  6. Expected to fulfillphysical requirements.

  7. Blood and body fluid exposure: Category 1.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Displays an attitude of interest, respect, and compassion for people.

  2. Ability to handle the public tactfully.

3 . Successful completion of the Ohio State Tested Nurse Aide program within 4 months of hire and in good standing with the Ohio Nurse Aide Registry (WDLN, CCC).

  1. High school graduate or equivalent, minimum of 18 years of age.

  2. Understands and adheres to policies and regulations.

MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Answers call lights promptly in person or via intercom.

  2. Assists RN and LPN as needed.

  3. Makes patient rounds on unit to anticipate patient needs.

  4. Reports changes in patient condition immediately to nurse.

  5. Assists in admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.

  6. Assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) as directed by the plan of care.

  7. Provides safe environment for patients.

  8. Performs routine treatments (See criteria based performance).

  9. Transports patients, equipment, and specimens to other departments as required.

  10. Completes mandatory organization and unit specific requirements.

  11. Practices efficient and non-wasteful use of supplies.

  12. Takes and records vital signs, height and weight as directed.
