PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Cardiac Monitor Tech is responsible for the ongoing, continuous surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. The technician may deliver telemetries and perform monitor hook-up/discharge, patient preparation and teaching related to the monitor.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

  • Recognizes status for battery and leads and notifies appropriate staff as indicated.

  • Accurately measures and documents various cardiac intervals and appropriately interprets cardiac rhythms.Recognizes and reports new ST elevation.

  • Maintains notification logs.

  • Communicates professionally with multiple levels of staff and maintains positive work relationships.Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm.

  • Cleans, maintains and stocks all designated equipment, including telemetry and transport monitors.

  • Places telemetries on patients using correct lead placement and proper skin prep.Uses teachback when educating the patient about the monitor.Utilizes infection control/isolation techniques as appropriate.

  • Demonstrates accountability and commitment to coworkers.Is a dependable member of the team. Shares monitoring activities fairly and coordinates breaks.Addresses issues in a timely manner.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

· High school graduate or equivalent. Complete required organizational and unit competencies as assigned.

· EMT/Paramedic, or cardiac monitoring technician experience preferred. Recent position within the healthcare field preferred.

· Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology, cardiac monitoring, EKG analysis including measuring various intervals, rhythm interpretation and ST segment monitoring and patient ramifications of various EKG alterations, medical terminology and medical law as it applies to the monitoring position.

· Excellent customer service, computer and communication skills.

· Current BLS

· Certification as a Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT) must be achieved within 3 months of hire date and maintained throughout employment as a monitor technician.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

· Rotating shifts, generally every other weekend and every other holiday. Subject to change based on the needs of the department.

· Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.

· Sitting/standing/moving about during working hours
